I corresponded with Dawud for several years while I was his outside liaison for the Inside Advisory Board of Decarcerate PA. Dawud taught me that even in the face of a death-by-incarceration sentence, someone can be a leader, mentor, and teacher to many others, both inside and outside the prison walls. As an educator myself, I found my conversations with Dawud shaping my teaching, as we would discuss readings and exercises for participants in his Dare-2-Care educational program and my own undergraduate students. He has accomplished so much despite being imprisoned, but we need his leadership out here in the community—it is past time for Dawud to come home. –Thomas Dichter
